Autumn Away Day at Great Hadham GC 11th October  2024

Title-Pic.jpg

The last of the Vens away days was held on 11th October where the Summer Stableford Cup was being competed for. Arriving to meet 15 other Vens when the temperature was 3°C did not make me think of a Summer competition but I was informed that that the competition was always held at this time of year. Fortunately, though it was a chilly start the sun shone and we were soon taking off the winter mittens and stripping down to more summery attire.

The course was in excellent condition and quite scenic with rolling hills and fields surrounding.

Lunch back at the clubhouse was a home made chicken and mushroom pie followed by apple and rhubarb Crumble and custard which was eagerly enjoyed by the Venerables.

Many thanks to Steve King for faultless organisation of the event, it is always a pleasure to enjoy his competitions and away days, also Andrew Wyatt for photography and Dave Sephton for publishing on our website

Looking forward to next April's event.

Summer (Autumn) Away Day at Cainhoe Wood Wednesday 11th October 2023

Today 14 Venerables attended our last away day on our calendar at Cainhoe Wood.

The course was a new experience for most of us, and proved to be tricky particularly around the front 9 greens, although a number of good overall scores were achieved.

The weather was pleasant for the time of year, and the rain stayed away, although the wind was high, but manageable.

We were treated to a nice welcomed meal and sweet, served by very pleasant staff.

As usual the comradery and good humour made it a privilege to be there.

It has to be said, that none of this could have taken place without the hard work and attention to detail of our Competition Secretary Steve King, and our gratitude goes to him.

The photos on the day were provided by Steve Board and our thanks go to him, and also to Dave Sephton for putting them on our website.

Summer-Autumn-Away-Day-14.10.22-Wyboston-Lakes.jpg

In perfect weather conditions 19 Venerables competed in our Autumn Away Day at Wyboston Lakes for the Summer Stableford Trophy.

The day 'kicked off' with some excellent bacon rolls, and after an introduction from Steve King, we set forth on a course in very good condition.

A few good scores were returned, but for the most part they probably didn't match the course and weather conditions, and after one or two apres golf beverages we all tucked in to our two course lunch

Our thanks to Steve King for organising the day, aided by Dave Watts, to Andrew for the photos, Dave Sephton for the web page you're looking at now, to Richard for officiating, and to all the Ven's that supported the event.
