28 Venerables set out for the annual 4 clubs and a putter competition. Although dry and sunny, a strong, cold wind made scoring somewhat difficult. In spite of the weather, an enjoyable day's golf.

Our thanks to Bernard and Dave Watts for organising, to Dave Sephton for the photo's and Richard for officiating. The 28 players were joined by another 3 Ven's for lunch, and as always, our thanks also to Mrs A for the excellent curry.

Three teams were competing for 2nd and 3rd place with 71 stableford points, the team that just missed out on count back were messrs Woods, Starr, Board and Williams (M), and those taking home the prizes shown below.

24 Venerables set off clutching their 3 favourite clubs, not forgetting their putters, for the annual 4 club challenge.

In spite of those nice people from the BBC forecasting some moist conditions, the weather was fine, and given recent weather, the course was in pretty good condition. The day was completed by one of Mrs A's delicious curry's (at least for 19 of us).

Our thanks to Bernard for organising the event and to our intrepid photographer for the day, David (Bailey) Watts.

On a chilly, damp, breezy morning an excellent turnout of 38 Venerables set off clutching their favourite 4 clubs and a putter, for this much anticipated annual event.

A ‘mixed bag’ of scores in what were somewhat difficult conditions, followed by one of Mrs A’s curries. Our thanks to Bernard for organising the event.

3rd place with 87 points were Colin Edge, Graham Kipping (not in picture) and Steve Williams.

2nd place, on count back, with 88 points were John Faherty, Derek Buxton and Ian Desborough.

In 1st place, on count back, also with 88 points were David Baker, Richard Gardner and Neil Staples.

On a crisp, but sunny and dry morning, 28 Ven’s set out to play the annual 4 club competition with their choice of 3 clubs plus a putter.

Not surprisingly, the scores were a mixed bag, with some players missing their other 10 clubs, and some not really noticing their absence. The golf was followed by an excellent curry from Mrs A.

Our thanks to Bernard, who stepped in for Merv, and did a splendid job of organising the event.

The days results:

3rd place OCB with a team score of 70 points were Steve Board, Richard Gardner and Martin Appleton.

Above – 2nd place with 71 points were Bob Bridges, John Searle and Ian Taylor.

On a bright, but very breezy day, 22 intrepid Venerables participated in the 5 club challenge, all looking forward to one of Mrs A’s excellent curry’s at the end of the round (that is apart from the 5 less adventurous Ven’s who opted for the alternative menu of ham, egg and chips). The 22 were joined by a further 5 who attended for the lunch only.

An indication of the difficult conditions were reflected in this years winning scores, which were some 15 points lower than 2017.

The event was organised by Merv Cooke, Alan Parkes and Richard Gardner. Andrew Wyatt was in charge of photography.
